Down for repairs

Cairo Dispatch will reopen September 6th, when classes resume. I am spending this month out of Egypt, and thus am trying to be faithful to the notion that Cairo dispatches should all be written from Cairo.

Cairo is a state of mind.

I've been thinking about the whole "Health care is better in Egypt thing." While you may be right, I want you to consider a show like "Grey's Anatomy" and to ask yourself whether they could ever develop an Emmy-award series about doctors and hospitals in what is essentially a third-world country. At least the poor and uninsured in America have the luxury of WATCHING people receive superb health care (at the hands of very attractive interns and attendings, I might add). What price do the Egyptians pay for not having these kinds of health care "options"?
